Police officers share news and tips for cyclists

Bihor Road Police officers went out on the roads but also through the county schools to share reflective vests and tips for cyclists in an action with their colleagues at the Crime Prevention Department

According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Bihor Police, the action takes place in May-June in several Bihor localities.

 

“There are meetings with members of local communities in the rural and urban areas, in which there are presented the traffic rules that have to be respected by the cyclists on the public roads, but also by the drivers, in order to prevent victimization by road accidents”, according to information.

 

Also, in the preventive activities carried out in the educational establishments, police remind young people of their traffic obligations during cycling, the proper way of equipping the bicycle, and present them with preventive education.

 

“At the same time, as part of the activities carried out, the traffic police and the traffic police distribute bicycle trafficked traffic lights,” the communiqué said.

 

Preventive activities are carried out by BiH police in partnership with representatives of the Association for Road Safety and Education.

 

Attention to traffic

 

In the communiqué transmitted, police also list the main rules that cyclists have to respect in traffic.

 

Thus, it is good to know that, in order to drive a bicycle on public roads, its driver must be at least 14 years of age, and those under the age of 14 may only travel in specially arranged places, parks or private properties, and traveling on public roads are only accompanied by adults;

 

Bikes should be run on the right side of public roads as close as possible to the curb. Where there are bicycle tracks, their drivers will use them. Where there are plots arranged, trampled ground or side paths, cyclists are advised to use them.

 

Another rule is that when changing the direction of walking, you have to make sure and signal in time the intention to move. Signaling is done at least 50 m in the localities and 100 m apart before the maneuver is performed.

 

The intention to turn is to be signaled by hand, as follows:

 

The left horizontal lever when changing the direction of left or overrun;

 

The right arm stretched horizontally when changing the direction of going to the right;

 

The horizontal straight horizontal arm swung vertically when the bicycle is stopped.

 

The right-hand corners start from the right-hand side of the road and the left-hand corners of the road. Approaching the road axle is done in time before the actual maneuver is performed.

 

Helmet saves lives

 

In traffic on public roads, the bicycle shall be equipped with an effective braking device with adequate, functional, steering, appropriate lighting and equipped with an audible warning system and fluorescent-reflective devices.

 

For added safety, it is recommended that the bicyclist wear an approved helmet and that it is compulsory for other road users to wear reflective clothing with fluorescent reflective tapes, from leaving the evening until dawn or when visibility is low.

 

Careful! There are also bans!

 

Bikers are forbidden:

 

Run in parallel, except when attending organized sports competitions;

 

To move without holding at least one hand on the handlebars and both feet on the pedals;

 

To move while under the influence of alcohol, narcotic products or drugs or medicinal products with similar effects;

 

Keep onboard a vehicle;

 

Carry a person other than the child up to 7 years only if the vehicle is fitted with special support or is built/equipped specifically for the transport of other persons;

 

To transport or to shoot any objects which, by their volume or weight, obstruct or endanger the driving of the vehicle or the movement of other road users;

 

To travel when the carriageway is covered with ice, ice or snow;

 

Drive the bike without keeping the wheels in contact with the ground.

 

Crossing public roads on pedestrian crossings during cycling is forbidden!
