Safety through visibility

Safety-through-visibility

Pedestrians and cyclists are more vulnerable than so-called “weak road users” in the dark season, especially when they are perceived by other road users bad or very late due to dark winter clothing. Therefore, car, bus, and motorcyclists should pay more attention in the dark season.

How you can effectively improve your visibility on the road, our experts explain from the local traffic accident prevention: The next date of the information booth will take place on Thursday, November 29, 2018, 2 pm to 4 pm in the entrance area.

Especially pedestrians and cyclists can contribute something to their safety. In addition to their own correct behavior on the road, safety vests, reflective fabrics on clothing, as well as on bags or similar. Contribute decisively to get healthy through the traffic. A person dresses darkly in the dark and in poor visibility is only recognized in the headlights of a car driver from about 25 to 30 meters. If their clothing is bright and rich in contrast, the visibility increases to at least 40 to 50 meters. If the person uses “warning clothing” or reflective accessories, the distance in which they are perceived in the spotlight increases to at least 130 to 160 meters.

Through the campaign “Safety through Visibility”, the Traffic Prevention Department of the district police authority Mettmann intends to dedicate itself intensively to this endangered target group and to point out the effective use of reflective material on clothing through information material, various visual objects, and interactive presentations.

Police road safety advisers, police superintendent Haken and police superintendent Wolf, will be presenting themselves to the public on Thursday, 29.11.2018 in the time between 14:00 and 16:00 at the entrance of the food market “EDEKA” in Ratingen. Experienced police officers supported by the volunteer senior security partners from the “Action Alliance Senior Security” (“ASS!”).
