“Safe Road to School” action

Safe-Road-to-School-action

As every year, from September the police action begins: “Safe way to school”. The officers will watch over safety and order in road traffic, in school areas and on roads that lead to schools and education and upbringing facilities in the initial period of education, after the summer break.

A constant element of the “Safe Way to School” activities is inviting police officers to meet parents and to learn communication with children. Classes with a police are always a big attraction for children, which encourage them to learn about traffic rules. Knowledge of officers from “roadsters” who, apart from discussing the most important regulations, are able to give practical advice to children and point out the most dangerous places in the school area, cannot be overestimated. Shaping the right habits in children is tedious work, but it pays off, because these habits stay for life.

We remind parents that not every first grader can be an independent participant in road traffic. According to art. 43 of the Road Traffic Act, a child under 7 years of age may use the road only under the care of a person aged 10 or more (this does not apply to the residential zone and the road intended for pedestrians only). A very important factor increasing road safety is wearing reflective clothing, such as reflective vests. Parents who bring children to school should also remember about the obligation to carry them in protective car seats or special seats. The child under the school should be taken out of the car from the side of the pavement or shoulder, not from the side of the road.

The campaign “Safeway to school” is addressed both to children and to all adults, in particular to parents and teachers who have an educational obligation.

This year, Radio Olsztyn joined the activity giving away children who started the school year with reflective materials. The “Safe Way to School” campaign will last until September 9.
