How to act if you run out of gas on the road?

The first thing is to stop the vehicle in a place that does not endanger the safety of any user of the road. That is, you must park outside the road, on the right side and respecting the trafficked area of the shoulder. Otherwise, it will be an infraction that, even if it does not cost you any point of the driving license, it will mean a fine of 200 Euros.

Also, the authorities may consider that your driving has been negligent. This is because, when you run out of gas, you lose some control of the vehicle and many times there are situations of risk to road safety. In view of this, Article 3 of the Code establishes that “it shall be conducted with the necessary diligence and precaution to avoid any damage, whether owned or others”. In case of not doing so, the fine will also be € 200. And the most important thing that you have to do is to wear a safety clothing.

Sign your vehicle and look for solutions

If, for any reason, you run out of fuel on the road, it is essential that you follow the same procedure as when you suffer or witness a traffic accident. The protocol is to protect, warn and, finally, help. So, although in this case we will not have to help anyone, it is important to signal our position and warn other vehicles that our car is damaged.

Then, the ideal is to notify the crane if you do not have access to a service station where you can buy some fuel. But, all this, you will have to do it using the reflective vest with reflective materials, because if the authorities discover you without it, it could cost you 80 Euros of fine.

Finally, if you are a lucky person and you have a gas station at your fingertips, you should bear in mind that you cannot use any container to transport the fuel. There are approved containers for transporting dangerous goods and not using them is considered a serious fault. In other words, if you use a bottle or any other container to refill it with gasoline and solve your problem, you face a fine of 2,000 to 3,000 Euros.
