Highway failures: drivers irresponsible, accidents increasingly

The number of accidents on the Slovenian motorways is increasing every year when the vehicle collides with another standing vehicle in a lane. In the event of a malfunction, it is imperative that all passengers leave the car and wait for the appropriate services on a safe fence, put on a reflective vest and put up a safety triangle. In any case, waiting in a car is a completely inappropriate solution and puts all passengers in the car at risk.

 

The number of accidents on Slovenian roads is increasing

Between 2017 and September 2019, there were almost 50,000 traffic accidents in Slovenia. Over two and a half years, this is more than fifty accidents per day. Of that time, there were about 300 road accidents during which a motor vehicle on the highway collided with a standing vehicle in the highway lane.

 

In 2018, according to the Public Transport Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, 85 accidents occurred and one person lost his life when another vehicle collided with a standing vehicle on the highway. By August, 59 such accidents had already occurred, and fortunately, no deaths have been claimed so far. This means that on average twice a week a car accident of this type occurs.

 

The highest risk for highway maintainers

As many as half of motorway crashes are in maintenance and their equipment. According to Dars, as much as 50 percent of all collisions in the back lane are caused by truck drivers, 40 percent by cars and the remaining tenth by vans. Another interesting statistic is that the driver of a vehicle with Slovenian license plates is responsible for 70% of this type of accident.

 

The most violations of the use of the right lane are detected in the area of the Ljubljana motorway ring and the areas of highway incursions on it.

Don’t wait for help in the car

When stopping in the back lane, one of the most important things we can do for passenger safety is to leave all passengers safely and as soon as possible. Of course, this does not mean opening all the doors to bankruptcy and getting a headless exit from all directions. Passengers must leave the car on the right side where there is a fence and no cars pass by. They need to get reflective vests before. Do not open the left door and do not exist on that side, because at that moment a careless driver can drive past too close to the far edge of the lane.

 

All passengers are placed behind the guardrail and await the arrival of the appropriate services. When everyone is safe, a safety triangle must be installed at least 100 meters away from the vehicle for greater safety.

If you do not know the exact location, the SOS pillar comes to your aid

 

The SOS pillars are two kilometers apart along Slovenian motorways and are helpful when the driver does not know the exact location where the problems occurred. The Traffic Information Center will thus obtain the exact location of the stopped vehicle and call the appropriate service, depending on the type of problem.

To stop on the weird lane $ 80- $ 300

A fine of $ 300 is imposed on a driver who stops, drives or parks on a lane or a recessed niche; Failure to do so shall remove the vehicle at its expense by a road maintenance contractor by the provisions of the law governing roads.

 

An individual can get $ 80 fine while walking on a freeway and expressway because he or she does not wear a reflective vest with reflective tape. The driver is fined $ 80 if his vehicle stays due to a malfunction, car accident or other cause on the road and therefore poses a risk to other road users and the driver does not switch on the hazard warning lights. The same fine awaits a driver who has not set up a safety triangle.

As explained in Dars, their control center transfers the information to the competent highway maintenance base immediately after the notification and immediately begins monitoring the events through video surveillance and placing appropriate contents on variable traffic signaling (SPS). After receiving the notification, the maintainers head to the place where they are trying to arrive as soon as possible. Their goal is to help the user as quickly as possible and allow traffic to flow smoothly.
