In the campaign “Be visible” of the Kuratorium, children of the elementary school learned how important visibility is on the road.

In order to prevent accidents due to insufficient visibility, the KFV with the campaign “Be visible” children of the elementary school in a playful way on the dangers in the dark and poor visibility. The need to wear light and reflective clothing were demonstrated.

With this new free action of the KFV, kindergarten and elementary school children are shown the importance of road safety for their safety with two hand puppets – the firefly and the hen. In elementary school, the children also learned in the course of the action that they are better visible through bright clothing or reflectors for motor vehicle drivers and are much safer on the road.

Due to their size and often unpredictable behavior, children are at risk for accidents. These conditions are aggravated in autumn and winter because, at this time of year, children are increasingly leaving their paths in the dark. Although they can even see brightly lit vehicles from a distance, they are often perceived by vehicle drivers very late. The reason is sometimes the limited ability of the human eye to capture objects and people at dusk or in the dark.

“A dark-clad pedestrian is often recognized only from about 20 to 30 meters – but that may already be too late, depending on the speed chosen by the driver. Pedestrians, on the other hand, wear visible, light clothing with reflective tapes and reflective materials are already perceived by motor vehicle drivers from a distance of 150 meters. This circumstance can reduce the accident risk by 50 percent, “emphasizes Peter Filbert, Managing Director of the Board of Trustees for Traffic Safety. An observation of the KFV shows that especially in adulthood

In order to achieve lasting effects, the KFV is also providing the participating kindergartens and schools with a craft kit with posters, lyrics on the topic of visibility, drawing blocks with coloring pages, reflector foils, and reflective crayons

Preparation of the topic available. As a result, the children once again deal with this important topic even after the event and are given the opportunity to transform themselves into fireflies, for example, through self-made reflectors.

“The goal of this campaign is to make sure that children learn something that they have learned in their everyday lives and that they are so firmly anchored in their awareness that the tips and hints remain present until adolescence and adulthood,” says Filbert brings the topic of “visibility” back to memory.
