Police make students visible

For the twelfth time the national “Day of Light” took place. The road users should be reminded to make themselves visible and thus to ensure more safety in road traffic. The police distributed for this purpose to all 2nd graders in the canton reflective caps which made with reflective tapes.

In the autumn and winter months, the light and visibility conditions deteriorate noticeably and the accident risk increases significantly. 90 percent of the information in traffic is absorbed through the eye. Therefore, the risk of accidents in twilight and night is three times as high as in daylight, in fog or snowfall even ten times as high.

Dark-clad road users can be seen only 25 meters away, as the police reports. Bright clothing and signal or neon colors improve the visibility to 40 meters, reflective materials even to 140 meters.

In order to improve the safety of the pupils, the traffic instructors of the police distribute reflective caps to all second graders in the Canton this year. These should help ensure that students can safely master the way to school in the dark.

With other simple but effective measures, all road users can improve their visibility and thus contribute to the prevention of accidents.
