Bright red caps should provide more security

With the start of the school year 2018/2019, the “seriousness of life” has begun in Gladbeck for more than 600 boys and girls. But this is also another important step because now Dutchmen also starts with the active participation in the traffic. In the beginning, certainly accompanied by mums or dads, but also the day comes when the children will be traveling alone.

In order to ensure that the inexperienced children in Gladbeck can be as safe as possible when it comes to road traffic, the organization “DEKRA” together with the “Verkehrswacht Gladbeck” continues the proven action “Safety needs brains” in 2018.

And so Kirsten Delbert (branch manager DEKRA Essen) together with the traffic guard chairman Klaus Parma visited all Gladbeck primary schools in the last days and equipped the first graders with bright red safety baseball caps.

“The red caps are not only cool, but they also double the safety,” explains Kirsten Delbert. “While the red color draws attention to the wearer during daylight, the all-around reflective tape ensures that the children are seen and thus their way to school is safer,” says Klaus Parma.

From the point of view of traffic experts, the red caps are simple, but also a very effective measure to protect children on the road.

The “DEKRA” campaign has been running since 2004 and so far more than 2.2 million baseball caps have been distributed nationwide. At the beginning of the school year alone, more than 200,000 copies were added nationwide.

Kirsten Delbert and Klaus Parma also advise parents to pay attention to reflective fabrics in children’s clothing – for example, in the shoes and satchels. Especially at dusk, in the dark or even in diffuse autumn light conditions, thus a better visibility is guaranteed. Also, a subsequent attachment of reflective materials is no problem.

“With this campaign, we are deliberately and sustainably committed to the safety of the weakest and most inexperienced road users,” conclude Klaus Parma and Kirsten Delbert.
