Police will focus on pedestrians as part of November’s security action. Check for reflective vests that must be worn by pedestrians under reduced visibility. A fine of up to 2500 crowns is a violation of the law.

“In connection with the more frequent reduced visibility and the unfavorable development of traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists in this period in recent years, nationwide security measures have been announced for November,” Iva, police spokesman for the Hradec Karloff Region, explained.

Since February this year, an amendment to the Road Act applies, which requires pedestrians to wear reflective materials outside the village. ‘If a pedestrian goes out of the village in low visibility on the roadside or on the edge of the road in a place which is not illuminated by public lighting, he shall be obliged to wear retro reflective elements positioned so as to be visible to other road users’ is literally written in the amendment to the Road Act.

And it is precisely the movement of pedestrians and cyclists for reduced visibility on the road, with traffic policemen all over the Czech Republic in the coming month. “There will also be a policeman from the Press and Prevention Department, who will learn about the hazards of such behavior by invisible pedestrians, and add reflective tape to their visibility,” added Iva.

The police have been benevolent to change the law so far, and they have only been alerted to the violations. Reflective tape or vest can save the life for pedestrians, without them being almost invisible on the road. Pedestrians may be fined up to CZK 2,000 for violation of the obligation. The amount may be even higher by CZK 500 in administrative proceedings.
