Road safety – Stay visible in winter

The Prefecture and the Departmental Directorate of Public Security organize an awareness campaign on the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists. 43% of pedestrian mortality occurs between October and January. In low light, the visibility of the drivers is greatly reduced. A pedestrian or a cyclist without reflective vest is then visible only 30 meters by a motorist in normal traffic conditions. However, at 50 km / h, it takes about 25 meters for a car to stop.

To avoid taking risks, pedestrians and cyclists must be very visible.

A simple way is to wear a safety vest or reflective clothing and / or wear clothing and accessories with retro-reflective tapes or stickers. These devices make a pedestrian or cyclist visible more than 150 meters, five times more than normal.

Cyclists must also remember that lighting is mandatory on bicycles (yellow or white front light, red taillight, orange reflective elements on the pedals and wheels).

The prefecture of Herald and the Departmental Directorate of Public Security organize Friday at 18 hours, at the foot of the Corium in Montpellier, an awareness campaign. On this occasion, kits visibilities (backpacks, yellow vests and reflective bracelets) will be distributed.
