“Be visible “: Recommendations for Road Safety

In this dark period with fog, rain and poor visibility, pedestrians may not be seen or seen too late by motorists. In the dark, the driver only sees pedestrian wearing dark clothing at a distance of 25 meters. Rain and fog further diminish this visibility.

A pedestrian with reflective accessories will be visible at a distance of 140 meters which significantly reduces the risk of collision. By analyzing the circumstances of the various accidents that occurred between 2011 and 2015, nearly 65% of vehicle-pedestrian collisions occurred in the dark.

The Ministry and Road Safety recommend:

Pedestrians and other vulnerable users to increase their safety through reflective clothing and accessories;

Motorists to redouble their vigilance

Some tips: Pedestrians: be visible!
