Winter is not letting go

Due to heavy snowfall, driving conditions are becoming more and more difficult. In such winter circumstances, it is really easy to have an accident. That is why the policemen call for special caution and for taking the foot off the gas.

We have a real winter outside. It is a difficult time for drivers. They must be aware that the current weather is not conducive to fast driving, but it is conducive to bumps and collisions. In some places, there is still ice on the road surface, which causes the wheels to easily lose traction.

The uniforms remind that the road surface combined with rainfall extends the braking distance, and in extreme cases, the driver may skid and not control the car. Overtaking, passing, and cornering in these conditions can be very dangerous.

“We also appeal to pedestrians not to go directly in front of the oncoming vehicle. Every pedestrian should also remember about their safety and make sure they are visible. We remind you of the obligation to wear reflective elements outside built-up areas after dark. A reflective vest, a key ring, a wristband, or even an ordinary flashlight will make us more visible to the oncoming driver while driving on a dimly lit road,” emphasizes Justyna Sznel, KPP press officer in Olecko.

Police officers again urge road users to be cautious.

Only driving at a speed adapted to changing weather conditions can guarantee safety. Remember to go on the road a little earlier than usual, anticipating that the roads may be impeded by snow or icing on the road. Uniforms remind drivers about the obligation to clear snow from vehicles. Driving with a layer of snow on the roof or with ice-covered windows poses a threat not only to the drivers and passengers of such vehicles but also to other drivers. The ice layer on the windows limits our visibility, while the falling snow, as a result of the vehicle’s movement, in turn, makes it difficult for drivers to follow us.
