Meet the (many) poorly enlightened Touraine cyclists

On the occasion of the transition to wintertime, Tours-Métropole and the Syndicat des mobilités de Touraine renew the awareness campaign “cyclists brille!”. Until 16 November, several distributions of lamps or reflective material are planned in Tours.

40% of accidents involving bicycles take place at night. Moreover, according to a study of Road Safety carried out last year in ten major cities, 57% of cyclists are too little or not at all informed at night. As every year, the period of change to winter time is an opportunity to recall good practices.

This Thursday, November 7, late morning, representatives of the cycling collective 37 and the home bike and Rando Tours went to the faculty of two lions to educate students cyclists, even if they are few in this area very well served by public transport.

The equipment that can be seen well on the road costs about twenty euros

Bernard, from the cycling collective 37, recalls what a well-lit bicycle is: “It takes a white light at the front, a red light at the rear, not to mention reflective systems on the front wheel and the rear wheel, as well as on the pedals. This is the basic compulsory equipment to which can be added clothing with reflective fabrics visible at 250 meters. This vest is obligatory out of town, at night. can have equipment that will save our lives.”

Two more appointments are planned next week, in Tours to educate cyclists and offer them various bright or reflective objects: November 13 on the forecourt of Tours station from 16H to 18H, and November 16, at the market halls.
