Preventing drowning

During the summer season, drowning is common, so the police come with recommendations. Whether they are fishing or want to cool off and enter the Danube for a swim, people need to be very careful.

Preventing drowning cases is a priority for the Transport Police, considering that, in 2017, at the level of the Naval Transport Police Station Brăila there were eight deaths by drowning in the Danube river.

The persons concerned went to bathing or fishing, and because of the inattention, the consumption of alcohol or other factors treated ignorantly by those concerned, the death occurred.

This year was not without such unpleasant incidents. A recent case is that of a 38-year-old man from Constanţa county, who, on June 24, drowned in the Danube River, the Măcin arm, near the town of Stoienesti. He had come with a group of friends to spend a weekend on the green grass, and that morning, around 10.30, he entered the water alone, to bathe. It was taken out of power and disappeared underwater, the body was found dead after a few days.

Thus, the Transport Police brings to the citizens the levels of risk and consequences of inappropriate behavior and recommends the adoption of self-protection measures, to avoid tragic accidents.

The main causes that generate event production are:

Bathing in the Danube river in unpaved places;

Practicing water sports without taking safety measures;

Non-observance of the regulations in force regarding the navigation of pleasure boats;

Failure to perform the obligatory service tasks by the navigating personnel, alcohol consumption;

Conflict situations and acts of violence between fishermen or embarked travelers.

To prevent drowning, the police recommend that people avoid alcohol or narcotics, go to bathing only in specially designed places, to avoid getting too far from the shore if they are not good swimmers. In the case of boarding, regardless of the type of boat, the life jacket with reflective tape must be used. It is also important to avoid getting up, while traveling, to eliminate the risk of falling overboard.
