Yellow vests once again secure the way of small schools

Starting next week, Laurinlahti School is not worth hitting. In addition to dozens of others, Maija Koota, a first-year classmate, and Mimosa Höglund and Micaela Nirhamo, both sophomores, begin their semester at the local school.

For the third consecutive fall, they have been sheltered by some volunteers – with bright yellow safety vests. Volunteers from the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and activists from parents’ associations are helping to secure the children’s school path.

Many motorists immediately silence when they see yellow reflective jackets. ”

The rally organized by MLL for the third time includes at least four local associations from Espoo and one from Kauniainen. Thirty of the associations in Uusimaa have already received traffic alerts.

The Laurinlahti schoolyard was renovated at a rapid pace on Wednesday evening: a car parking lot has been built in August, so parents carrying schoolchildren no longer have to leave their valuable cargo on the street.

“This will also increase safety, but it is a good thing that there are other ways of protecting the school trip of children who start their school,” says Christa Carpelan, president of MLL’s Laurin Bay Association.

He joined the shelter when the family’s first child left for school a couple of years ago.

Volunteers in Laurin Bay help children over the crosswalks in the mornings next Tuesday and Wednesday. Each shift lasts half an hour. If there had been more volunteers, yellow vests would have been visible on the streets for the rest of the week.

We must remember that we are not police officers, nor do we stop cars or other road users.

“But yes, I’ve found that those with the yellow bra is the effect. Many motorists immediately silence when they see yellow jackets sew on reflective tape. Sometimes there is no denying being like a metal police officer,” Carpelan laughs.
