In accordance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Law, pedestrians on the road after dusk outside the built-up area obliged to use reflective materials in a visible way to other road users, unless they are traveling on a road intended for pedestrians only or on the sidewalk.
It is also worth noting that after dark a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver of the vehicle from a distance of about 40 meters. However, a walking person wearing a reflective vest becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters. These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and avoid it safely.
Reflective tapes may include items attached to clothing, reflective headbands, reflective vests, and leashes. It is important to place them: the reflectors are recommended to be placed at the level of knees, hands, around the center of the chest and back – then we will be sure that they are clearly visible to other road users.
In turn, the police remind the drivers that at the beginning of the autumn period they took care of the technical condition of their vehicles. In particular, check the condition of tires and lighting, and above all check the correct setting of lights in the vehicle.
