Lemon or ticket

Lemon-or-ticket

Eating a lemon or paying a fine for not following the rules of the road? On Tuesday morning, preventive action was initiated by the Municipal Police Headquarters, Municipal Police and City Hall.

It was meant to remind cyclists and pedestrians to the rules of safe movement. The services also checked the technical condition of used bicycles and their mandatory equipment. “Even today, in the course of this action, there were cases where the driver of the bike, despite the bicycle path alongside the pavement, moved along the sidewalk, thus creating a potential danger to pedestrians. We pay attention to special places where public roads with cycling routes cross. We also try to recall the principles of safe movement. Police officers from the road traffic department check the obligatory bicycle equipment, i.e. bell, light, including reflective ones. We give reflective vests, that is, an element that allows other road users to see a cyclist from afar and take care of its safety.” said Andrej, Vice President.

It turns out that cyclists are very well prepared for getting around in road traffic. “As we observe, most people who use bicycles are equipped with the prescription. These are mostly new bicycles, equipped with reflective features as standard. Nay! These people have with them, not always on themselves, because it is day and we are in the urban area, reflective vests with two reflective tapes. In conversation with them, we know that they can behave properly in road traffic. We suggest them some problems when it comes to crossings of pedestrian routes with running ways, ways of crossing, moving across the road. I think there will be a positive response. This is such a prophylactic action, it is known that the school year is about to begin, so we will approach the youth with a similar action, recalling traffic regulations, checking the bicycle equipment. I think that after a dozen or so minutes we can say that we are satisfied. Most of them move safely, according to the regulations, and have the complete equipment required for bicycles.” explained Insp. Krzysztof, the city police commander.

This year there were several incidents with pedestrians hit by cars, where they were not properly secured with reflective materials. Hence, among others, this action and plans for the next meetings in schools or with seniors.
