People who go out on a road without noticeable reflective tapes on their clothes will face a fine of up to two and a half thousand crowns. The government has promised better protection for pedestrians since the amendment approved today. In pedestrian statistics, pedestrians are among the most vulnerable groups. With this measure, they already have their experience in Slovakia, Belgium, and Poland.

The car driver is able to register a pedestrian who is wearing darker clothes at a distance of 18 meters. However, an 18-meter car will drive at 50km / h per second and a half. This means that the driver cannot manage at all to prevent tragedy. Recently, several accidents have occurred on our roads due to the carelessness of pedestrians, such as an accident on Thursday 19 March or an accident on March 23. In both cases, the car crash was tragic. Similarly, an accident at Lenovo in the Triton region occurred on March 15th. “The driver of the car noticed the pedestrian until the last minute. He was completely in dark clothes and did not have any reflective elements, “police spokespersons said.

According to Transport Minister Dana, this measure is beneficial: “I take this element as a contribution to security. I think this is very appropriate. It is not like he wants to stand in the way of a citizen buzzing or chasing. It is like pedestrian safety. He should realize that when he sees it, he is much safer than when he goes in dark clothes and the driver will see him at the last moment. “But the walkers do not have to worry about wearing reflective vests. There will be a reflective accessory in the form of a strap that is easily attached to ankle clothing, or clothing with retro reflective elements.

This measure can also be found abroad. This applies, for example, in Belgium, Poland, or Slovakia. According to Tomas Larch, traffic police chief, the accident in Slovakia has fallen significantly since the introduction of pedestrian reflective elements. However, not only Slovak citizens, but also parliament, opposed the use of reflection elements in towns and municipalities. One reason for disagreement among citizens was the poor economic situation of multiple families. Protests went to the ministry, but that did not resolve its position. It is not yet clear to us whether we will wear reflective material just outside the village or everywhere. This will be decided in the coming months.
