The obligation of the reflective jacket for all riders who will cross the French roads arrives.
Are you going to go along the beautiful French roads during the next motorcycle season? If so, you must remember to bring the reflective jacket with you. A law just approved by the Government of the Alps has made mandatory – from 1 January 2016 – the presence on board of motorcycles, scooters (two or three wheels) and light quadricycles not equipped with fairing (like the quads) of the safety vest.
The norm, severely criticized by the FFMC – French Federation of Motorcyclists was strongly desired by the French executive, who, to ensure greater safety on the roads, decided to impose the presence of the jacket fluorescent yellow also on board the vehicles listed above in order to increase the visibility of their drivers in case of stopping along the carriageway.
Sanctions for those who do not have it
If the norm becomes similar to the one imposed on motorists, the fate of those who do not have it will be similar during a check by the French Police Forces: in both cases, the sanction will go from 11 to 135 Euros. In the absence of the vest to put on top of the technical garments, the high visibility-clothing item is also considered valid; if it complies with the European EN 1150 and EN 471 standards, (they can be found on the label). Furthermore, it is clear that it is not obligatory to keep the head on in normal driving conditions, but only in case of an accident or failure or poor visibility such as fog or heavy rain. Exactly like cars, the important thing is to always have it with you. If your imagination is already running towards a spring in Provence, or any other wonderful French road, know that you will have to equip yourself.
