A police wear safety vest patrol at the station

“I was shining yesterday,” was the most frequent excuse for unleashed cyclists to catch a pair of policemen on Thursday morning at railway station, almost on everyone’s face to be surprised that they were surprised at the early morning stops. The police action was focused on, whether cyclists are properly equipped with reflective elements that are imposed by law.

This means the front and the rear lights and reflective reflectors in the wheel strut. Other reflective elements are also recommended to help improve the visibility of people walking around the streets. But by far not all of these obligations met. Some did not have any visible feature on the bike; others only light in the back.

“I live near the station. I’ll take the light forward, “promised one of the bikes, which was told by police officers that they would only deal with it this time.

A curious explanation was another cyclist who also had no light in the front. “Now I took him off in front of the station,” he explained to the surprise of the two guardians of the law, and showed the great light he really pulled out of his pocket, of course the police explained to him that he could only take the light off after the end of the ride. And in front of the station, “he heard from the intercepted police officers.

Helmet is not an obligation for adults

It was also interesting to observe how many cyclists have a helmet on their heads, even though they are not legally prescribed for cyclists. Of about twenty cyclists, he had only one protective helmet. “It’s not an obligation for adults, it is everyone’s responsibility to take the helmet or not,” explained a policeman who shared with his colleague to everyone without a reflection tape.

He took part in the preventive action of BESIP, whose representative Poach also participated with the police. He also pointed out that a new law on pedestrian reflection should be implemented in the first months of next year.

“So far, it seems like the duty should apply to all pedestrians outside the city. But the exact wording of the law should be approved sometime at the turn of the year, “he said, adding that such legislation exists in Slovakia, for example, and has positive results.” There, the children have become accustomed to the fact that when they leave home in the dark, automatically reflective vest, “added Poach.

Over the past few years, hundreds of pedestrians died on the roads of the Czech Republic and were not seen. That is why the Ministry of Transport decided to respond to this sad statistics by the draft of the new law.

Preventive Action called Visibility

Preventive action is organized throughout the Central Bohemian region and is called “Visibility.” It is divided into two parts, the first of which was focused on cyclists and pedestrians on Thursday.

“With regard to the season, which are dimming soon and the visibility is poor; the event was focused on the most endangered group of cyclists and pedestrians. From mid-November, another part of the preventive action will be carried out, focusing on motorists. They will receive reflective safety vests, “said police spokesman Petra Poona.
