Safety vest for the orientation

Taking the start of the night orienteering race, our correspondent discovered a thrilling discipline.

Team No. 44 Novices with reflective vest. The name says it all for Laurent Nicolas and Gael, three curious entered by chance in this fourth edition perfectly organized by Team. Two ideas in mind before departure: discover what an orienteering and especially fun.

The appointment was therefore taken. We team (compass, fluorescent reflective jacket, headlamp …), and after a debriefing necessary for the use of the card, one enters into the deep. And yes. When you know nothing and it is night, hard to locate!

After some hesitation about which route to take to get a maximum of 34 tags spread over the life-size playground, it soars to a maximum of 2 hours 30 minutes of running or walking (everyone does as he wants) to search of the famous sesame to punch our way to map these strategic points.

Friendliness foremost

Well we start, things seem clear … to tag 28. There is drama. It is believed to be good, but they are mistaken. On turning around, asked for directions to our playing partners, we return to our not finding the transition tag 32 because we were too far away.

Finally, the Grail is found, but a lot of wasted time. We leave through fields without seeing much except the lights of the other lads that also help us navigate. The grand tour was launched to collect tags bringing the most points. The legs are good, the morale also, and we laugh like kids in a playground.

Yet the cleaver approach clock. We quickly get to the game. We will try to tag 22 with reflective tape before returning! Bad referral, it is not found. We must return quickly, but it’s too late. Three minutes it times out. A small penalty is not detracting from our final ranking.

Back at the base camp where friendliness is required, the balance is very positive. Sure, we will start with you…?
