Dear motorists and users of soft modes of locomotion, many of you are going on holiday this summer.
This is why the Ministry of Ecology and Traffic monitoring still give you tips and tricks this year to consume less fuel, less pollution and reduce your environmental footprint. The security measures like safety vest and reflective tape are also taken into account of course. Here they are:
– Before you go, prepare your travel and your vehicle: study your entire route including the final journey and learn about traffic conditions and traffic and weather conditions to choose the right time and the right day of departure. Save time and fuel economy to the key!
– Made by professionals control the overall condition of your vehicle, including lighting and tire pressure: under-inflated tires cause fuel consumption by 2.4% and 0.5 bar for the dangerous overheating safety (risk of bursting). A well maintained and well-tuned vehicle is a guarantee of security and consumes up to 10% less fuel than a poorly maintained vehicle
– Remove any unnecessary burden: disassemble galleries, roof boxes, bike racks after use because they cause excessive consumption of 10 to 20% fuel
– On departure and during the trip: adjust your speed to the conditions (rain, storm, and road works). Try to maintain a steady speed, drive smoothly, avoiding jerks (braking estate and high acceleration), use engine brake and avoid over-revving the engine: this will save fuel (up 15% less fuel than practicing a sport known or nervous behavior)
– The eco-driving is a citizen driving behavior to reduce the risk of road accidents (10 to 15%) and reducing emissions of greenhouse gas, responsible for global warming
– Stay tuned traffic information and weather, it can help you avoid congestion, reduce travel time and thus reduce fuel consumption
– Shut off your engine in an extended shutdown as stopping and restarting a vehicle consume less fuel than letting the engine run at idle more than 20 seconds
– Limit the use of electrical equipment and do not abuse the air conditioning, but reserve its use to heat waves. The air-conditioned cars consume on average 5% more fuel than those who are not
– Advice for pedestrians and cyclists: Put on bright clothing and use bright or reflective tape to be well seen by other road users. Wearing a retro reflective vest is mandatory, non-urban, for every driver and passenger of a cycle of night and day when visibility is poor. It is also strongly recommended that cyclists wear a helmet in order to be protected in case of fall.
