Pegida, quo vadis? The example Chemnitz-Einsiedel

reflective vest

There are now “Pegida Chemnitz-Erzgebirge” no longer. There was a split in “Pegida Chemnitz and West Saxony” and “homeland and tradition Chemnitz Erzgebirge”. What is the exact difference in content between the two, I cannot say exactly. It probably has to do with the label PEGIDA and thus with those from Dresden, but also so that local Akteur_innen one wants to get even with the boat. In “Home and tradition” which are, for example, John Doe (Chemnitzer Councillor NPD) in PEGIDA there is at least an official demarcation.
A real and credible distancing of Nazis found in Einsiedel not take place merely confessions as “We are just not neo-Nazis”. No one was excluded from the demonstrations. It had, for example, neo-Nazis of “III. Path “clearly on jackets, competition (see. Free Press). Even with PEGIDA in Chemnitz has distanced itself publicly stronger and were correspondingly less organized Nazis here. However, the participants with reflective vest say that does not agree with everything, there were no Nazis there, and everything else were Denunzierungsversuche the press.
The “Initiative One percent” from the environment of identitary and Götz Kubitschek, a pioneer of the New Right, Einsiedel discovered for their project. Can you say something about it?
“One percent” Various initiatives has sought that fit well into their image of a popular movement. They strive for a social revolution. For them Einsiedel was a “Gallic village” a beautiful symbol, because there has been continuous protests and indeed a protest, which initially could not be brought into disrepute, for example through the open participation of neo-Nazi parties. was brokered the image of a peaceful, non-partisan and local citizens’ initiative, although the protests were content not temperate in Einsiedel, refugees have generally rejected and sat on direct resistance as blockages. Thus Einsiedel had the status of a radical initiative, without the disturbing impression of Nazis and riot.
That is who picked “A percent” -Aktivist_innen and their videos then also made publicity for Einsiedel, thus pushing the protests and helped them to a certain reputation. So they could use the protests for themselves while supporting Einsiedeler protests.
What issues are negotiated during the protests in Einsiedel?
Initially it was about safety, fire safety, fire water, building sizes and fences, ie directly to the establishment of EAE. The treatment of such matters of substance has the protests initially procured also legitimacy. But for the customary themes similar movements as the West German asylum policy, “Merkel has to go”, positive references to Russia.
Have gender specific issues played a role? How visible are women?
The bogeyman “Genderismus” has in my opinion played no role. Women are visible, the already mentioned Peggy Thalmann has a leading role in the protests. The folder is copied to service Einsiedel exclusively by men that unlike PEGIDA Chemnitz Westerzgebirge where this is organized by a woman.
In particular, the protection of the information booth and its Board is partially adopted by many women, with children. Without the participation of women of protest could therefore can not be maintained.
In the elevators front run mainly normal Bürger_innen. Once, athletic younger men had grouped at the top, but they were then ordered back quickly.
I could also view even a few demonstrations. My impression was that the place was involved varied: When setting up the speaker system, then cake was baked for the information booth. And there were boys who drove ahead of the demonstration by bicycle, radio equipment and safety vest. Many could join. The discussions among the people before the events also focussed on news from family and the village.

This is really wide worn in Einsiedel. The information booth was so busy for many weeks, day and night. Since people have pushed Guard. It was ensured that diverse people with plenty of time to get involved.
Can you say something about the situation, as it was said: “The refugees come”?
From the beginning, accompanied blockade actions protest in Einsiedel. In October, the access road was with a truck and several hundred people blocked (see. YouTube). End of November came to the rumor, the device will respect, several dozen people together. This was repeated on January 7, 2016 as the EAE was then based, and 400 police officers make the buses the way had.
Such actions resulted in part from people from Einsiedel. The proportion of outside, also of more or less clearly occurring Nazis, however, was there greater. The Ange newcomers were always linked to the information booth, have repeatedly visited this on days and strengthened there – mutual support.

Was there in Einsiedel counter protest?

Up to twice there in Einsiedel no public protest. Both protests were organized by the Alliance Chemnitz Nazifrei so from the city and less from the district. Both demonstrations a few people came the first protest many times less than the asylum hostile demonstration. The second time, the demonstration of counter protests was accompanied by Rassist_innen and Nazis who photographed the entire train.
One reason for largely a missed protests is certainly that on (potential) was critical Beobachter_innen after the first information session on assaults. It was dangerous there to protest – also because it is difficult to Einsiedel and to get back to the city center. Given a little come the inertia of Städter_innen, but had to also deal at the same time with other asylum hostile demonstrations themselves. In winter 2015/16 there were in Chemnitz week up to 4 relevant rallies and protests.
What about now concretely in Einsiedel from?
In the village there are people wearing reflective tape who oppose and position itself for Escaped, but they have problems with the balance of power on the spot are against them. People are trying, therefore, not to make their support for Refugees so publicly or completely anonymous.
There is a escapees-solidary group of about 70 people who help locally. This is in many places in rural areas, the only way to position themselves against such racist alliances: to form a Helfer_innenkreis and to remember that there are other people who think like me, to also feel solidarity. Here people realize I’m not alone, I can exchange ideas with like-minded people and I do not do public the. Because on the street they would face forms of action that are not theirs, or at worst, with attacks. The Helfer_innenkreis is then a good way to find and replace can (on Facebook: Flüchtlingshilfe Einsiedel).
