More and more readers have complained that lately road traffic police have fined them for lack of the second reflective triangle in the car trunk on the right or because their extinguisher or car kit has been expired.

According to the Road Code, the driving of a motor vehicle which is not equipped with approved medical kit, safety vest, reflective triangles and fire extinguishers is homologated and is sanctioned with the fine provided in the second class of sanctions – at 4 or 5 points – respectively from 580 lei to 725 lei.

Why are two reflective triangles mandatory? Police officers explain this: The reflective triangles are installed in front and behind the vehicle on the same lane at a distance of at least 30 m from it, so that the approaching traffickers can see them in advance. In locales, when traffic is intense, the reflective vest and triangles can be placed at a lower distance or even on the vehicle, so that the other drivers can see them in advance.
