Wearing a safety vest and staying with the car in need of repair is not a pleasant experience, especially if it happens on the highway. Here are some tips on how to behave and how to stay calm even in an emergency.

 

Finding yourself in a broken down in the middle of a journey is certainly an unpleasant event. If the fault occurs on the highway, the situation can be very dangerous: better know what to do to better protect our safety, our loved ones possibly present on board the car and other drivers.

 

First, it is necessary to remain calm, not to panic, and to act with reason. Mechanical failures or malfunctions of electronic matrix are unlikely to block the vehicle suddenly: if during motorway driving we notice a loss of power or anomalous noise, it is good to gain the emergency lane as soon as possible, taking care to signal our direction with the direction indicators and checking to have free road.

 

If the engine suddenly turns off, great caution is required: do not stop the vehicle, but take advantage of the residual inertia to reach the emergency lane. Warning: when the engine is off, the steering is much heavier to maneuver because the hydraulic power steering stops working.

 

Once you have reached the emergency lane, we advise against tying up with the engine, especially if you do not have the necessary expertise.

– Activate the four arrows using the red button, usually located in the center of each vehicle’s dashboard.

– Apply the handbrake.

– Before leaving the vehicle it is necessary to wear the high visibility vest according to the law.

– Do not get off the driver’s door: use that of the passenger on the right side of the vehicle so as to keep us as far as possible from the fast motorway traffic.

– Recover the warning triangle, usually housed in the spare wheel compartment under the luggage compartment, mount it and place it along the emergency lane 100 meters from the vehicle in need of repair.

– It is advisable to step over the guardrail in order to be safe from any vehicles arriving.

– At this point use the mobile phone to signal the car in need of assistance to the ACI or the roadside assistance.

– If you do not have a mobile phone, if the battery is low or we do not have a network, we are forced to walk along the emergency lane until you reach the nearest emergency station.
